Cheap Thrills
—
Picked up some random “cheapies” recently from the drugstore and random flea-market style booths recently. Not all of them are good purchases, sadly.
Here’s the 411!

Makeup/Nails:
1. Stila Barbie Smudge Pot from a Smoozzie booth.
I tried the tester, loved it, figured I found a bargain and went home with it, only to find the liner had completely dried out beyond help. They must have picked out the only “fresh” pots to use as testers. I feel very duped; it’s not a lot of money, but there’s no return policy for these sale items (not that we had such a culture here to begin with).
Guess I shouldn’t have felt it was impolite to open the box to check the product first. Be warned!
2. China Glaze nail varnishes in Dance Baby (beautiful sweet pink) and Secret Peri-Wink-le (lovely powdery indigo).
Nothing wrong with these at all. I love them.

Skincare/Haircare
1. Maybelline Soft Lips color-changing lip balm in Soft Pink.
Balms that go a hot pink are a dime-a-dozen. I’ve been buying them since I was a teen. But something that gives you just the softest hint of healthy, natural-looking, undetectable color?
Sign me up!
2. Batiste ”Blush” scented Dry Shampoo
I’ve been using the original Batiste for a long while because it’s cheap and accessible. It’s not my favorite dry shampoo in the world, but I do love the tiny Evian-size fragranced aerosols that I can slip in my handbag.

Fragrance
Rihanna Rebelle.
The moment I took that very-awkward, very-cheap-looking bottle out of the box, I began asking myself a resounding “WHY”. Note to self: Do not buy random celebrity perfumes unsniffed just because they’re cheap and contain cocoa and coffee.
I can’t say it’s a bad scent. It’s pretty well-composed,but it smells like a great concept spoilt by a meagre budget. (Think food-scented plastic toys or scratch-n-sniff stickers.) Even that is tolerable. After all, I really like Givenchy Play Intense for Men, and that’s a synthetic-smelling coffee fragrance. Unfortunately, Rebelle gave me the most blinding headache 5 minutes after I sprayed it on at home.
On the bright side, I did realize after this that the combination of certain flowers like orchids with patchouli are instant headaches for me. (I gave away a full bottle of Chopard Wish which contains the same 2 notes.)
If anyone has a rather full bottle of 3.4oz Fancy that they don’t want and would like to swop for a 99.9% full and pretty much brand-new bottle of Rebelle, message me.
