Lavender Velvet (Embossing Powder) Nails!

The past week, I popped into a local craft store and found some lovely fine embossing powders (I only bought the one color, a lavender) and the most gorgeous glitters (more on that in a future post). So now I’m using the Lavender embossing powder from ZING (it’s an American brand so those of you in the US might be able to find it more easily than those of us in the rest of the world).

There’s nothing to the look really.
Step 1: Paint on base-coat. You always want to protect your nails and minimize staining.
Step 2: Apply 2 thin coats of your chosen nail color. For best results, it should more or less match your embossing powder. You can try different colors for interesting effects, but it has a tendency to look patchy when the embossing powder wears off it spots or gets coated on unevenly. I used my long-time favorite, Revlon Gum Drop.
Step 3: Do this 1 nail at a time. Paint on a thin* layer of top coat, and then dip your nail into embossing powder. Wiggle around to make sure the entire surface is coated.
*If you apply a thick coat, you could end up with an entire chunk/wad of embossing and it just looks ugly. The layer you use to adhere embossing powder should be as thin and even as you can make it.
Step 4: Use a soft brush to dust off any excess embossing powder round and under your nails.

This works with ALL colors. You can also use the same thing to apply dramatic glitter nails. Only thing is, try to get as fine a glitter as you can, or it wouldn’t coat your nails evenly.
