Cobalt Wing: Graphic “Duochrome” Liner and Poppy-red Lips (for a funky Valentine’s)

Say you’re doing away with the whole dinner and flowers thing, and having fun at the club or jazzing it up with the girls (or boys) this Valentine’s, and you want eyes on you.

This is a very fun way to wear a classic red-lip-and-liner retro “Bombshell” look with a cool twist. (I love it because it looks like stick-on liner in photographs!), And while I picked blue because I have brown eyes, you can EASILY adapt this to any other color. This is good for any skin tone and most eye shapes, including mature skins and hooded lids. If you have mono-lids, the liner might not show up quite as well.

Forest: Matte Teal and Metallic Pink-Bronze Cat Eye

Dark matte teal isn’t a shade that I normally reach for, because green is a pretty dramatic color in many cases. To keep it from looking to flat and heavy, I’m contrasting it with a luminous bronze. MAC Pink Bronze, like its name implies, has an iridescent coral-pink sheen which stands out very well against a deep aqua-green like Revlon Matte Shadow in Tempting Teal.

I paired it with rather dramatic black gel liner so it’s not the typical smokey eye.

Step 1: Apply a dark black-toned base to the lid. This will keep the green very intense and deep.

Step 2: Apply the deep teal green to the outer halves of lids, keep the inner corners bare. With a soft blending brush, gently spread the color inward along the socket line, and then outwards into a wing.

Step 3: With the pink bronze pigment (you can use any metallic bronze or copper as well) pack the brighter color onto the inner halves of lids, overlapping the green that you spread inwards along the socket line.

Step 4: Now the eye lids are done, apply a black gel liner thickly along the upper and lower lash lines, ending in a long, thick flick at the outer corners. The flick should be a straight, upward extension of the lower line.

Step 5: Apply black mascara to finish.

Soft Winged Eyes for Work/School using 2 Sables
—
MAC Sable layered over Revlon Soft Sable! The rich mauve-toned metallic brown can make some eyes look a little bruised. Layering it over a dark matte brown on the outer lids gives it depth and keeps it from looking too red against some skin tones.Just smoke it straight outwards at the outer 1/3 of the lids for a slight wing. This is the easy way to wear smoky eyes without it looking too over-the-top for work!

Weekend Face: Lavender-Pink Glossy-Stain

—-

Wanted to keep things simple but polished this weekend, and went for the below products:

Lids: Chanel “Spices” Quadra (get a similar effect using Revlon Colorstay “Copper Spice” Quad)

Liner: NARS Eyeliner Stylo (NYX Skinny Black Liner is an alternative)

Cheeks: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in “Blonde” (any pearly-pink blush would work)

Lips: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in “17 Encre Rose” (a close match is MAC Naughty Saute and Revlon Stormy Pink is less lavender in tone, but would look quite similar with gloss on top)

Wine-Smoked Eyes with Doll-Pink Lips

This is a good option for a soft evening look that would work with bright strawberry-milk lips. I used the second of my Wet n Wild Coloricon Palettes in Knock on Wood. I do like the individual shades in this palette, but I have to say the combination does not allow for many options as there isn’t enough contrast between the palest shade and the deeper ones when applied on the lids. Still, if you like warm colors, this is a nice one to own.Step 1: Apply the wine-colored eyelid shade onto the entire lid area, up to the socket line.

—-
Step 2: Apply the dark brown crease shade as instructed to the outer corners, along the socket line, and down along the lower lash line with a smudge brush.

 —-
Step 3: Finish by applying black liquid liner along the upper lash line, and then false lashes. (I used Ardell 122s for a soft, wispy look that isn’t too elongated at the outer corners.) Finish with mascara along the bottom lashes.
If you want a bit more drama and definition, apply black pencil along the water line as well (top image).

Step 4: Then apply a deep rose blush and finish with bright pink lips (NYX Narcissus) to set off the warm, smoky eyes. If you find Narcissus uneven and hard to wear, click here for a tip to making it work!

Hothouse Flower Teal Eye (Deep Teal with L’oreal HIP Flashy Eyeshadow Duo)
—-

One of the things about hothouse flowers is their deep, intensely-green leaves. In the second evening look for steamy Summer, I thought I’d feature a really simple look featuring a very affordable shadow.
L’oreal HiP Eyeshadow Duo #318 Flashy (matte-beige and deep teal combination)
If you like greens, I really do recommend the L’oreal HiP duo. It features a staple matte beige with traces of silver sparks, as well as the most gorgeous deep teal shot through with a faint gold sheen.
—-
Step 1: Apply a dark cream base to the lids. I used the black shade in ELF Licorice cream shadow duo.

—-
Step 2: Apply the dark teal green all over the lids. If you have MAC’s Green pigment, it would work, but the smoky-satin intensity would not be there as Green pigment is very metallic, and the L’oreal is more velvety.

—-
Step 3: With a pale gold shade (use any that you own), rub a highlight in the inner corners of eyes, as well as the beneath the outer corners.

—-
Step 4: Trace black or teal liner along the waterline. I used MAC Shade Gel Liner, but any black pencil will do as well.

—-
Step 5: Apply separated, spiky false lashes for a look reminiscent of a Venus Fly Trap.

—-
And the perfect bloom to pair your hothouse green with?
NYX Power for the edgier, and Revlon Pink Pout for the gentler of our species.
