L’oreal Festival de Cannes 2013 L’Or Sunset Collection (2 Lipsticks I couldn’t resist!)

Aside from the drop-dead gorgeous Doutzen Kroes in the campaign visuals, with the “celestial” gold glimmer on lids, lips and nails, I was really drawn to 2 of the luxe gold-infused marbled Color Riche lipsticks in the collection.

But it wasn’t the gold swirls that sold me on them. (And you can see that despite the beautifully-retouched advertising, the gold shimmer in the lipsticks aren’t all that obvious once you apply them.) It was the wonderfully smooth texture. These are like sheer, glossy, balm lipsticks. They feel real good on, and you CAN see the gold glimmer up-close in real life, though they aren’t as dramatic as MAC Dazzle Lipsticks.

There are 2 other colors in the lip collection (a brown-gold and a rose-gold) but I picked the 2 shades I felt would look more flattering on me personally.

  • Blackened Pearl: Beige-gold; this is by far my favorite lipstick out of the 4. The gold doesn’t show on camera because the base shade is so light, but it’s very pretty in real life.
  • Smokey Rouge: Red-gold. This isn’t as bold and dramatic as it looks in the tube. It’s more a warm, glossy tomato shot through with a little gold.

The collection also includes 2 eye palettes (a neutral and a burgundy-and-dark-green set) but I don’t exactly need more eyeshadows so I passed on them.

[Requested] Olivia Palermo Eye makeup: Tips for women with thick lids and/or deep sockets

Olivia has got to be one of the most beautiful women in the world, in my opinion. She reminds me of Penelope Cruz, Heather Graham and Shania Twain all rolled into one.

I didn’t want to do this post initially, because Olivia’s makeup looks the way it does largely due to her natural eye shape (more common among Indian and Mediterranean women).

  • Very deep and defined sockets
  • Huge, rounded eyes, slightly down-turned at the outer corners
  • Very thick double-lids
  • Medium lid space (probably the only thing I have in common with her, in that her brows are not very far or very low and close to her eyes)

The makeup is quite straightforward and there are no restrictions for skintone. But if your eye shape is very different, it will NOT look like hers, The good news is, everyone with a double lid can wear this makeup.

Not recommended if you have mono-lids or very hooded lids, because this is a shape that emphasizes the visible fold and lash line.

Forget Black Swan.

What’s a spotty black bird compared to the glory of a Bird of Paradise?
(Ok just kidding. I loved the show, and the scene when Natalie Portman transformed into the black swan sent my heart racing and chills down my spine. But the makeup is over-copied on the internet.)
This look was probably created using cream or paint products for that texture and level of intensity. I love how the colors remind me of the ocean on a hot summer day, and not only don’t compete with the blue eyes, but also bring out their crystalline beauty more.
Do also note that the lashes are intentionally kept feathery and full to go with the overall look.
If you’re like me, you’ll probably NOT be rocking this at your next party, but most CERTAINLY interested in the color combinations!

Big Graphic Black Liner with White and Gray Shadow

I can’t explain why I’ve been obsessing over strong liner recently.
This look features a gorgeous soft defined crease with razor-sharp, dramatic black liner extended all the way to the (extended) brow, which is ALSO extended for visual balance.
If you’re attempting this, DEFINITELY use a gel liner as it gives maximum control. And if you’re not using eyeshadow, you have the luxury of arming yourself with plenty of Q-tips and non-oily makeup remover to get those razor-sharp edges. If you are, then unfortunately, you’ll need very steady hands.

Olivia Wilde with Kitten Liner, and Pretty Pink cheeks and lips

I love how Olivia Wilde always looks slightly exotic with her almond eyes, angular brows, square jaws and fabulous cheekbones. She has a face with character, and a sweet makeup look is sooo… flattering on her atypical features.
