MAC Bare My Soul Eyeshadow Quad Mini-Tutorials

I haven’t purchased anything from a MAC Collection for quite awhile. Frankly, it annoys me that they keep throwing out limited editions that you can never get again once they sell out, so I was surprised that I actually liked the Bare My Soul quad so much. (Methinks a backup palette is in order…)

Here are 2 simple looks that you can create with the shades for morning and night.

Simple Color-Contrast (feat. Catrice Cosmetics Cucuba Collection eye products)

One more European brand I’m enjoying exploring! Catrice is a well-known German brand with tons of affordable, fashion-forward colors. This season, the Cucuba collection features delicious rich browns, warm  coppery-bronzes, interspersed with tropical mints, yellows and corals.

Here are 3 of my absolute favorite items from the collection and descriptions so you can look for similar products if you can’t get Catrice:

  • Havana Drum pigment - a rich metallic bronze that goes copper on the skin
  • Take It Mint pigment - a shiny mint green shimmer
  • Take It Mint Liquid liner - pearly mint green liquid liner

I picked these colors because of the sharp contrast between them. You can substitute the copper and mint with any other color you want, but to get the same effect, just make sure they are not too close to one another. (E.g. try gold and lavender, green and pink, blue and bronze, etc.)

[Requested] Reinterpretation of a Sparkly Gold Smoky Lid

This is not an exact recreation because my eyes are shaped a little differently and I wanted to blend the edges out more, but I’ll run through the type of products you need tocreate this look.

I can’t be 100% sure with the yellow lighting and difference in skintones, but the item I find can create this type of sparkly effect is a loose golden-brown sparkle like MAC’s Reflects pigment in Antique Gold, used wet.

Reflects pigments are not glitter, and not regular shadows either. They are shiny mica particles larger than regular loose shadows so they sort of combine pigmentation with sparkle. Like glitters, they don’t “stick” to the skin well and will fall out all over your cheeks, so you might want to do your eye makeup first, then clean up and do your foundation and concealer after.

To get them to go on like dramatic foiled metal, you want to use either a good creamy base or apply them wet (do use eye drops or a liquid sealant instead of pure water as they will rub off easily once dry if there is no ingredient that provides some tackiness).

Beauty Q&A (20 April 2013)

Hey um I’m just starting out with makeup, what do you think is a good idea for everyday schoolish makeup for a middle schooler? (I want to look fairly natural though)

I would say go with a soft matte browns and beiges on the lids, a little mascara, just a hint of color on the cheeks, and a nice lipgloss that isn’t TOO pigmented, so it has a tint but your lip-color shows through. Here’s a look that you can easily recreate. (Just skip steps 3 and 4 because it’s really optional and not necessary for a school look.)

top 5 ‘natural’ eye shadows? top 5 mascaras? and top 5 eyeliners?

I’ll do a full post with swatches and pictures soon!

What is the best mascara to make your eye lashes look long?

I would say go with any fiber mascara if you want length. Fiber mascaras are like mini lash extensions. They contain tiny little black fibers that attach onto the tips of your lashes and look like your own. I personally find “wetter” formulas like Majolica Majorca Lash Exander better than dry formulas like Fiber Wig from Déjà vu because the fibers will transfer and stick to your lashes better, and you have more time to comb them into place nicely so they don’t point in odd directions. I haven’t personally tried the fiber mascaras from brands like Maybelline so I can’t tell you if they’re good or not. If anyone has, do chime in below and let us know!

[Requested] Simple Bronze-y Wedding Makeup for keeganmae

Keegan (if this isn’t your real name, sorry!) requested for a wedding look suggestion with perfect liquid liner, a glowy, bronze cheek/face, and nude/peach lips. I’m not fair and platinum-blonde like she is, but this is a pretty classic look that should work on most skin-tones with minor adjustments that I will mention below!

One key item that ties the whole look together is a shimmery beige/tan shade that is going to go on both your lids and cheekbones to create a dewy glow. I used MAC’s Tan pigment, which is a peachy-bronze.

Weekend FOTD: Soft Glimmering Bronze lids and Metallic Nude Lips

A quick but polished look with a bit of glimmer on the lids and lips. This is something I might also wear for work, though I might go a little easier on the eyes and not make it so smoky.
