Kitty Skittle: Konad Stamp and Polish Trial and Review

I said I don’t use Konad stamping polishes cos they’re expensive. Well I eat my words. I learnt that it’s actually quite affordable (translation: not marked up ridiculously) where I am, and if Konad special polish is cheaper than Sally Hansen and China Glaze in your country, what reason is there to NOT buy actual Konad??!

So I dropped by one afternoon and grabbed some items, and I’m loving them so far. (Check http://www.konadnailart.com/ for individual country stockists. If you’re in Singapore, Konad has a store at Causeway Point, level 2, and also ships from www.konad.com.sg.)

Final Verdict (for those who don’t want to read a long post)

If you can get them for a reasonable price in your country without having to pay shipping, get them!

Golden Bronze Cat Eye Tutorial (88 Warm Palette)

—-

My 88 Warm Palette has been in cold storage lately, as tends to happen when you are always trying new things. This is a look you don’t need the 88 palette to create, as there are lots of similar shades in other palettes as well.

The shades you’ll need to pick are

  • A soft beige- or malt-gold that isn’t too far off from your skin tone
  • A warmer, stronger amber-gold with some orange in it
  • A soft burgundy with a pearl sheen (surprise; this gives the whole look more depth than just sticking with a deep bronze or brown)

—-

Step 1: Apply the soft gold all the way from inner corners up to the brow bone, leaving just the outer-most corners of the eye clean. Run along lower lash line half-way from inner corners out as well.

 —-

Step 2: Pack the warm ambery gold onto the outer 1/3 of the lid below the socket, and then extend up to the brow bone. Notice I extended the color inwards more along the deepest part of the socket line. This will give your eye more definition instead of allowing all the bright colors to wipe out your contours.

Run the amber along the outer half of the lower lash lines as well.

—-

Step 3: Pick up a warm, rich burgundy and pack that right in the outermost corners of the lid, then also lightly sweep the remaining pigment on the brush up towards the end of your brow as well. This will make the look a lot richer and stop the eye look from going too brassy and yellow.

 —-

Step 4: Apply a black pencil along the tightline and waterline, and then use black liquid or gel liner to apply a thick flick at the outer corners. Finish with black mascara.

—-

The finished effect is polished, dramatic (how often do we wear color all the way up to our brows?), but at the same time not over-the-top because it should work with your natural skin tone. You can choose to pair this with a strong lip, but I prefer just going the natural route with this.

On Rest of Face:

  • TheBalm Hot Mama blush (my favorite warm coral blush)
  • NYX Iced Honey lipstick (metallic beige/nude)
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Coral Reef (sheer coral creme)
*Quick tip: Applying a creme gloss over a metallic or pearly lipstick is a way to juice up your pout without adding a lot of obvious shimmer and sparkle.
Grey 2 Ways: Day and Night Looks
—-

One of the most important things you can learn about grey is that it goes VERY well with black. I created 2 simple eye looks using grey eye shadows. Both are used in conjunction with black shadows, shaped to create different effects.
—-

Simple Look.

Step 1: Apply a base or lid primer. It can be flesh colored or a silvery shade.
—-

Step 2: Run a black pencil along the upper lash line and smudge out using a flat brush.
 —-

Step 3: Sweep a medium-deep gunmetal grey over the entire lid (I used I Nuovi Dust in Titanium but any grey will do), keeping the innermost corners bare. Then use a finer brush to sweep the brown along the lower lash line as well.
 —-

Step 4: Dab a little pale gold in the inner corner and down around the tear duct. Touch up the lash line with some matte black powder for a soft wing.
 —-
Step 5: Apply black mascara to finish the look.
 —-
Dramatic Look

Step 2: (Step 1 is exactly the same as above.) Use a pencil brush to apply a dark black shadow in a wide V- shape at the socket line, and extending straight out slightly in a low flare.
 —-

Step 3: Pack a glimmering pewter grey along the lids (I Nuovi Metallogy Shadow in Tin ). You can even apply silver micro-glitter over a regular grey shadow for more contrast against the matte black.
 —-

Step 4: Apply black liner along the water line and tide line, and then use the pencil brush from earlier to run the pewter grey along the lower lid as well.
 —-

Step 5: Using a flat, firm angled brush, sharpen the outer edges of the makeup with matte black eye shadow so it increases in intensity right at the outside edges.
 —-

Step 6: Add a little more black to where the black meets the silver at the outer third of the lid so the gradient is stronger. Add mascara to finish!

Black Jade: Dramatic Cat Eye Makeup
—-
Black and jade shadow dramatic eye using I Nuovi Fog and Wet n Wild Greed palette (matte black), with  Jordana Pink Passion Matte Lipstick

—-
Smoky shadow can be sexy and strong, and a matte black smoky eye is often the most dramatic of all. For this look, I wanted to add a touch of pale surrealism to the dark drama and minimize the “grunginess” without diluting too much of the strength.
—-
Step 1: First pack a layer of black shadow onto the outer 2/3 of the lid and gently along the socket line, pulling the color almost to the inner corner, but leaving a gap on the inner 1/3 of lids. This is where the pale color is going to go. The black should be most intense in the outer corners.

Line along the lower lash line with a smudge brush as well. The thicker the color along the bottom lashes, the more grungy the look will be.
—-
Step 2: With a soft blending brush and gentle windshield wiper motions, blend the black out into a tapered wing, and remove any harsh lines.

—-
Step 3: Apply pale jade shadow to the uncolored gap on the inner 1/3 of lids and run along the inside corners of the bottom lash line as well. Finish by applying black pencil to the water line, and black liquid liner along the top lash line.

—-
Step 4: Curl lashes and apply 2 generous coats of black mascara. False lashes would obscure the color on the inner corners, so if you want to wear them, wear half strips along the outer corners.

—-
The color along the inner corners does not need to be packed on too strongly or blended up and out too far. The primary component of this look when the eyes are open should still be black.

Wet n Wild Coloricon “Greed” Palette (Glam Look)
—-

This is a second look featuring the Wet n Wild Coloricon Palette “Greed”. Previously, I did a softer, more colorful look using the shimmery and coral-toned shades. This time, it’s more a play on shapes and contrast than washes of color.

Step 1: Apply eyeshadow base over the lids, then black kohl pencil along the upper and lower lash lines. Smudge along the upper lids, and then re-line right at the root of lashes so it is darker there.

Step 2: Using a flat, firm brush, pack the matte black shade along the liner on upper and lower lids, and then extend outward in a wing. It should be thicker at the outer halves, and not too curved.

Step 3: Apply the shimmery coral in the lid area, not extending up past the socket line. Then use a small brush to blend matte coral along the outer half of the socket lines for some subtle contouring.

Step 4: Using a clean pencil brush, run the silvery-gold shade along the inner half of the socket line. This gives shape and very interesting contrast.

Step 5: Apply black liquid liner close tot he lash line, and then false lashes and black mascara to finish the look.
