[Requested] Jade Thirlwell makeup in DNA makeup tutorial: Classic Neutral Glam Eyes and 3D Burgundy Lips)

Seems Jade Thirlwell’s makeup in the DNA video is causing quite a stir.

Basic theme:

Now, the video has special lighting and some color editing so there’s a noir sort of atmosphere, and the skin of all the girls looks a little sepia-toned and monochromatic. You won’t see any blush on their faces. There’s just matte, clean skin and a bit of matte contouring around the cheeks. Contrastingly, their hair and lip colors are processed to show up more visibly.

Each girl has a slightly different neutral glam eye, and “3D lips” done in different shades.

Jade Thirwell’s Look:

Jade’s lip was colored in deep berry tones to match that incredible burgundy hair. Her eye makeup is a slightly softer and more romantic than some of the smokier or cattier looks the other girls sport. There isn’t any obvious contouring; just thick liner along the upper lash line.

I would say ANYONE can do this look, although the effect will be more dramatic if you are very pale, with dark hair.

[Requested] The Black-and-White: Soft gray-scale smoke with graphic Black and White Liquid Liner

This is a simple white-and-black smoky eye with a more dramatic graphic liner twist. The eyeshadow isn’t hard to do, and is something that you can easily wear out, but the liquid liner is slightly trickier and it’s also not always hard to locate a very strongly pigmented white liquid liner, so it’s optional whether you want to follow the look exactly or just keep it simple and either skip the liquid liner, or only do the black.

For a basic liner application guide, look here.

The same rules apply when you are applying liquid and gels/creams.

Products used:

  • 88 Warm palette (3 shades used; matte white, black, and a deep metallic grey)
  • Lime Crime Uniliners in Quill (black) and Lunar Sea (matte white)
  • Black mascara (L’oreal Voluminous Carbon Black)
  • White eye pencil (Revlon Khol pencil in White)

If you’re looking for budget white liquid liners, Prestige used to have one, but I am not sure if it is still available. Unfortunately, most of the good matte whites I know are from more expensive brands like Illamasqua, Stila and Lime Crime.

The Copper Cat - Graphic Winged Eye

This is an updated recreation of a winged graphic eye, below, that I did awhile back, except this time, I used a copper metallic shadow instead of purple. You can always switch the lid color according to your preference.

This latest version is a little more precise and not quite as dramatic, so it’s up to you which version you prefer to try.

This eye shape can be done for:

  • Mono-lids, hooded lids, regular lids
  • Any eye color; though copper looks especially good with blue eyes, or if you are a woman of color.

Citrus Velvet: Matte Lime Lids and Creamy Orange Lips

Matte lime is a surprisingly beautiful shade on many skintones, and while it’s by no means a natural looking color, it’s fab when you need a bright pop on the lids. Here are 2 slightly different ways you can wear it without changing the products used. One the regular look on the left, and one the very dramatic 60’s Twiggy style doll eye.

I used 3-4 of the lime green shades in the 88 original palette (I mixed them all up) but you can use any lime, like MAC Bitter shadow or equivalent shades from brands like Sugar Pill or Lime Crime if you already have them.

You will need:

  • A matte lime colored shadow (88 original palette)
  • A matte strong green shadow (88 original palette)
  • A dark brown matte shadow (88 original palette)
  • White pencil (I used Revlon’s Matte white khol)
  • Black gel or liquid liner (Maybelline Lasting Drama in Black)
  • Mascara (L’oreal Voluminous in Blackest Black)
  • Orange/red blush (I used NYX Cinnamon)
  • Orange lipstick (I used Lime Crime My Beautiful Rocket)

Basic Green/Black Winged Eyes

There’s nothing quite as dramatic as a solid winged eye, and the good news is that it isn’t actually extremely hard to do as long as you get the basics right.

This look is good for:

  • All eye shapes and any skin/hair/eye color.

I used L’oreal Infallible Shadows in Eternal Black and Permanent Kaki. (I believe this is named differently in the States. You can use any deep khaki green you have.)

You will also need black liner, and mascara.

[Closed] The Color Cadet: 300,000 Follower Makeup Giveaway Part 3!

Sometimes you want to look fresh, sometimes you want to look polished. And sometimes you just want to walk into a room and make jaws drop. (And I think there’s a streak of that in most of us.)

The LAST part of the 300,000 Follower makeup giveaway is a kit of some of my all-time favorite colors from Lime Crime;

Color Cadet Kit:

Airborne Unicorn: This is the shade of lipstick that made me notice the brand in the first place. A few years back, I’d just never seen a color quite like this. It’s sort of a cross between bright violet and a pink-magenta, so it’s not the typical dark or gothic shade of violet. And it looks fab on light as well as dark skins. (It looks deep and bright on light skins, almost osstel on much deeper skins. Note - It does stain the lips a magenta after wearing)

Cherry on Top: Yummy, yummy, yummy. This is not the typically popular glittery-red gloss, but I personally think Cherry on Top has that extra zing that sets it apart from other shades of red. It’s a bright Maraschino-cherry with a dash of neon-fuchsia in there. Almost electric.

Capricorn glitter: If you’ve seen my “Absinthia” tutorial, below, you’ll know why I love this incredible color-shifting emerald. Layer it over black, layer over green, wear it as a liner… it’s gorgeous.
