"Hey, can you find a dupe for Victoria's Secret beauty rush wet/dry eyeshadow in black? Thanks :)"

Asked by Anonymous

Victoria’s Secret Wet/Dry shadows no longer seem to be available, but from swatches and images I’ve seen, the black shade “Smokin” is a deep black with silver sparkles, very similar to alternatives such as L’oreal Infallible Shadow in Eternal Black.

From what I know of the textures (I don’t have one of the VS Wet/Dry shadows with me right now but have swatched it before), the L’oreal will be more intense and sparkly, and you will need to work faster to blend/smoke it out quickly or it will “set”.

If you want an easier-to-work with version, there is always the bottom-right shade in the Wet n Wild Greed palette, which I believe might only be available online now.

"Just Spotted the Dupe! CHANEL 531 Peridot vs OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (Big thank you to everyone who flagged this!)"

If your heart is bleeding at the thought of paying for a bottle of Chanel, run out and check this (above) out now!

It looks like the formula has a little less of the metallic gold and more of the teal-blue base, but it’s probably pretty close.

Weekend Face: Lavender-Pink Glossy-Stain

—-

Wanted to keep things simple but polished this weekend, and went for the below products:

Lids: Chanel “Spices” Quadra (get a similar effect using Revlon Colorstay “Copper Spice” Quad)

Liner: NARS Eyeliner Stylo (NYX Skinny Black Liner is an alternative)

Cheeks: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in “Blonde” (any pearly-pink blush would work)

Lips: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in “17 Encre Rose” (a close match is MAC Naughty Saute and Revlon Stormy Pink is less lavender in tone, but would look quite similar with gloss on top)

MAC Quick Sizzle Matte Lipstick Dupes!

—-

Quick Sizzle is the sell-out shade in the limited edition Shop MAC, Cook MAC collection. It’s just been released in Asia, and the first shop I hit was already out of this shade.

Don’t you just hate it when the gorgeous colors are all limited edition???

In any case, I managed to pick one up, and immediately thought “Hmm, this looks familiar.” I probably had a couple of shades very similar to it. But I knew it would be sold out the next day, so I just couldn’t bear the thought of missing out. (Let me hear you say it; “S-U-C-K-E-R….” Thank you.)

Well let’s get to the point of this post;

If you missed out on the shade and can’t get hold of it, PLEASE don’t trawl through  eBay trying to buy it at exorbitant prices. There are 2 shades that are REALLY similar. BOTH are cheaper. Unless you’re a MAC collector, you really don’t need to get Quick Sizzle.

In the tubes, they look different.

Swatched, the difference in shades is visible but minimal.

On the lips - believe me - NOBODY else will really know the difference.

  1. NYX Matte Lipstick in Sweet Pink: US$5.50 on beflurt.com (don’t forget the Coupon Code MAKEUPBOX for a 10% discount!)
  2. Sephora Rouge Cream Lipstick in R11 Love Test: US$12 at Sephora stores

NYX Sweet Pink:

  • 95% color match (a tad more muted/cool-toned than Quick Sizzle)
  • 100% texture match

Sephora Love Test:

  • 98% color match (these go on extremely similar; Love Test is slightly more magenta, but the difference is almost indiscernible on the lips)
  • 70% texture match (this is a creme lipstick, so if you don’t like mattes, this is perfect)

Quick Sizzle has a hint more red/warmth than the other 2 lipsticks, but they’re the same sort of flattering, rosy fuchsia pink that doesn’t look neon, doesn’t look red, can be worn on a weekend OR for work, and goes with SOOO many skin tones.

MAC Lady Danger Dupe Request: NYX Matte Lipstick

—-

I got a question regarding what NYX lipstick would be a dupe for MAC’s Lady Danger. Well, I don’t know of any exact dupes currently, but intensity and shade-wise, this is the closest that I can find at the moment.

NYX Matte Lipstick in Pure Red.

It’s a creamy-matte which feels very comfortable on the lips, and is warmer and more orange than MAC Ruby Woo, which is why it’s quite close to Lady Danger (chili-red with an orange kick).

I swatched it next to NYX’s Indie Flick matte lipstick, because I added just a touch of Indie Flick to my lips for the actual 100% Lady Danger dupe. If you’re really on a budget and just want one lipstick, my money’s still on Pure Red, as Indie Flick is a brighter red-orange, more similar to MAC Morange.

P.S. Eye products worn:

  • Coastal Scents Hot Pot in Copper Pot on inner half of lids
  • 88 Original/Matte Palette soft purple on outer half of lids (the only purple in the blue row)
  • MAC Macroviolet Fluid Line along upper lashes (metallic plum/purple)
More Barry M Lip Paints! (L-to-R: 154 Pale Nude, 153 Pink Ribbon, and 145 Punky Pink)

My obsession with trying out more Barry M Lip Paints continues. (And let me just say - aren’t they gorgeous?!!)
I must say ordering online from Barry M is always a bit of a gamble, as you have no idea if what you see is what you’ll get. It took lots of Googling to get a better idea of what each shade looked like. This time round, I picked out 3 shades when I placed an order for my Fuchsia Lip Pencils, and they are:
(Swatches L-to-R): Barry M Lip Paints in 145 Punky Pink, 153 Pink Ribbon, and 154 Pale Nude
154 Pale Nude (creme) - “Concealer-lips” nude with a slight peach base. Quite opaque, with a lot of white in the base so it may not be the easiest shade to wear unless you really like that sort of look.
153 Pink Ribbon (creme) - Bright peach/coral-pink; VERY similar to MAC Chatterbox and NYX Fig. Perfect bright pink for those who are looking for a warmer, more coral alternative to shades like Pink Nouveau.
145 Punky Pink (creme) - Rich, deep cyclamen-pink. Listed on dupe sites as a 100% match for MAC Girl About Town. This goes on a softer shade than it looks in the tube, so don’t be scared by the color. It’s not TOO magenta or blue-based, so it would be flattering on most people.
Barry M ships internationally and each Lip Paint is £4.49.
As always, I’ll be following up soon with more detailed posts on each of the 3 shades, swatched alongside other similar colors!
