Coastal Scents S36 Copper Pot, with MAC Hip N Happy Pencil and Revlon Crystal Lilac Lip Gloss

I admit I steer clear of oranges on most occasions. All the makeup rule-books will tell you it works with people who have golden/yellow skin tones but a lot of times, wearing it wrong just makes you look sallow and jaudiced.

I usually never wear copper as a primary lid shade. I’ll pair it with plenty of black or navy to balance out the brassiness of the look, but decided to just give the color a shot this past week. Pairing it with a brown gives it some depth and definition but doesn’t detract from the coppery heat.

Seems it can turn out ok if you pair it with a soft pink lip and cheeks!

On eyes:

  • Coastal Scents S30 Cherry Chocolate Hot Pot in outer corners
  • Coastal Scents S36 Copper Pot in center of lids
  • Coastal Scents M14 Petal Peach Hot Pot in inner corners
  • Maybelline Great Lash Big mascara in Blackest Black

Cheeks

  • TheBalm Hot Mama

Lips

  • MAC Liner in Hip N Happy
  • Revlon Colorburst Lip Gloss in Crystal Lilac

Eye of the Day: Single-shade Olive/Khaki Wash for Lazy People (MAC Sumptuous Olive)

When it’s 7am in the morning, applying my eye makeup is one thing that really wakes my brain up, but there are days when it can be REALLY hard to work up the mood for anything complicated.

In these cases, I reach for one single shade to wear all over my lids as a wash, and there are a number of go-tos which I love for this purpose.

My favorite shadows for single-shade wash tend to

  • have a sheen - this gives dimension/contours
  • are slightly deeper than my skin tone - most people can do with a little definition and only colors that are darker than your own skin tone can give you that
  • be duo-chrome - takes a minute to apply, but makes it look like you spent a good amount of time blending a few shades together

The shade of choice for me right this moment is:

MAC Sumptuous Olive shadow (Veluxe Pearl)

This is a shade that looks sort of dark and dull in the pot, and in that odd yellow-tinged lighting in MAC. It actually looks like a dark antiqued bronze swatched on the back of my hand in the store, and frankly not extremely interesting.

But I decided to just go with popular opinion (this shadow is highly rated on Makeupalley) and I am SO glad I did that.

I apply it over primer for max intensity, so the shade goes on a smoky khaki but has a metallic old-gold or antique bronze sheen to it. It’s more interesting that brown, but not too over-the-top or obviously green for a day in school or the office.

If you have brown or hazel eyes, this is one shade you should definitely check out. Tip? Apply it to your lids in the store; not your hand.

Soft Winged Eyes for Work/School using 2 Sables
—
MAC Sable layered over Revlon Soft Sable! The rich mauve-toned metallic brown can make some eyes look a little bruised. Layering it over a dark matte brown on the outer lids gives it depth and keeps it from looking too red against some skin tones.Just smoke it straight outwards at the outer 1/3 of the lids for a slight wing. This is the easy way to wear smoky eyes without it looking too over-the-top for work!

Eye of the Day using Rust Shades (MAC Pink Bronze Pigment tip)

—-

This eye look took all of 5 minutes max.

I just applied a deep russet brown (try MAC Antiqued or Twinks) in the outer and inner 1/3 of the lid, and then patted Pink Bronze pigment down the center and blended slightly.

This pigment is an orange with coral/fuchsia sheen and can look a little too “pumpkin”-esque alone on the eye area, so I love layering it over deeper browns to bring out a warm, coppery heat that’s much more wearable and flattering.

Other products Used:

Base and Concealer: Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation RF140 + RF210

Cheeks: Chanel Bronze Universal

Mascara: Essence Extreme Volume Mascara

Brows: MAC Brow Pencil in Taupe

Lips: MAC Snob (the only touch of cool-tone on the face!)

MAC Tan Pigment and Flashtrack Shadow: Bronze and Navy Eye Makeup (for work)
—-
This was a super-simple eye that looks quite dressy without much effort.
I applied Flashtrack (deep navy Veluxe Pearl) to the outer halves of the lids, packing it in a more concentrated way around the socket line.
Then I applied Tan pigment (warm peachy-bronze) to the entire lid, blending into the navy.
I ran Flashtrack along the upper lash line lightly as a soft definer, using a flat angled brush, then applied mascara.
On the cheeks: MAC MSF in Medium Dark (contour) and MAC MSF in Porcelain Pink on cheeks (this was limited edition but you can use any pink/peach mineral blush for a similar effect)
On the lips: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake (this is one of my rare non-opaque lip days)
—-
Side-note: I’m sorry I always take pictures while on conference calls… it’s the only time I can do it in the morning! LOL.
