"Hey, can you find a dupe for Victoria's Secret beauty rush wet/dry eyeshadow in black? Thanks :)"

Asked by Anonymous

Victoria’s Secret Wet/Dry shadows no longer seem to be available, but from swatches and images I’ve seen, the black shade “Smokin” is a deep black with silver sparkles, very similar to alternatives such as L’oreal Infallible Shadow in Eternal Black.

From what I know of the textures (I don’t have one of the VS Wet/Dry shadows with me right now but have swatched it before), the L’oreal will be more intense and sparkly, and you will need to work faster to blend/smoke it out quickly or it will “set”.

If you want an easier-to-work with version, there is always the bottom-right shade in the Wet n Wild Greed palette, which I believe might only be available online now.

"omg. you need to find us a dupe for the greed palette asap!! that was the perfect kardashian palette!!"

I have got so MANY questions from all of you asking me about where to locate Greed and what might be a dupe.

Let me first say there is no whole-palette dupe of this. Certain shades from other brands would be dupes of various shades inside, but many of these would be high-end, since drugstore brands are VERY weak at coming up with matte shades.

I can list you all the shades from MAC that would match Greed, but then every single shadow I list would cost more than the entire palette ($5), so it just doesn’t make sense.

I suggest you get yourself »HERE« - like RIGHT now and stock up while they’re still $5 (instead of some silly price on eBay some day), if you can no longer find it in the drugstores around you.

Silent Treatment, which I recently featured is also here.

P.S. I just saw they have a 24 Hour flash sale. Enter FLASH24 for 25% off storewide, excluding clearance and exclusive items. Go crazy!

[UPDATE] For those of you who want to find dupes for the matte side (left column) of the palette, these would be:

Cream/beige shade: MAC Brule

Peach/Tan shade: MAC Bamboo (more tan than Greed), MAC Tete-a-Tint (slightly warmer)

Black: MAC Carbon

"Hiya, your latest tutorial had me wondering, how similar is Mac Idol Eyes to the silvery-purple shade from the Wet n Wild Greed palette? Because I love that shade, and now that the Greed palette is discontinued, I've been searching for dupes. I would really appreciate if you could let me know. Thanks so much, you're awesome :)"

VERY similar!

(I didn’t know they discontinued Greed!! Bummer!)

I was actually looking at them side by side the other day. But the one in Greed is a bit less shiny/sparkly. I think Idol Eyes has a little bit more of that pretty lavender hue as well so it is a bit more dimensional, but you also will tend to get a bit more fall-out on your cheeks if you don’t use it wet, since the flecks are larger.

Peach-and-Brown Defined Eye with Coral-Red Lips (MAC Lady Danger)

—-

This is a defined neutral eye with a twist of warmth with the addition of a peach shade. It’s simple and versatile, and you can wear it either with soft lips or a full-on coral like MAC Lady Danger.

I used:

  • Dior Nude Foundation #21
  • Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation RF140 + RF210 (as concealer)
  • Wet n Wild Greed Coloricon Palette (matte beige and matte peach)
  • Urban Decay Deeper - limited edition (you can use MAC Bronze or Twinks)
  • TheBalm Hot Mama! Blush mixed with a touch of Bahama Mama Bronzer
  • MAC Lady Danger Matte Lipstick

—-

Step 1: After applying a flesh colored primer on the lid (this is highly recommended as it will hold on to matte shadows better), use a pointed detail brush to run a rich chocolate metallic brown along the socket line - not the crease line from outside fading in.

—-

Step 2: Follow this basic shape and apply a peachy-nude to the center of the lids, and along the outer edge of the brown earlier to blend it out.

Then use the matte beige to fill in the inner corner of the lids and the brown bone.

The finished look, above.

—-

Step 3: With a flat angled brow brush, run the metallic brown along the lash line on both upper and lower lids.

—-

Step 4: Finish with black mascara, then dab a shimmery coral blush along the peaks of the cheek bone.

—-

Step 5: Slick on a fire-red coral on the lips, like MAC Lady Danger.

Animal testing note: Wet n Wild, MAC, Illamasqua and Urban Decay claim to be cruelty-free.

"Hi! I love the winged e/l look (neutral kitten eye) from Nov 9, 2011. But I didn't see which liquid eyeliner (and brush) and beige e/s you used. I'd love to know! Thanks! KDM"

I used the matte beige shadow from the Wet n Wild Greed Palette, and a Sephora Professionel angled brush #15. You can actually just buy a very flat teklon (synthetic bristle) brush from the art store!

The Prize:

It’s still growing. I have a few choice “cult” items being thrown in. I’m trying to make sure it’s an “international” package so that regardless of where the winner is from, there will be items that you might find hard to access.

The rule of thumb is quality, so I’m not restricting it to high/low-end items:
