Bejewelled: Gem Encrusted Eyes at Dior

I was completely wowed by Pat McGrath’s studded lids at the Dior’s Spring/Summer 2013 show. This isn’t something you can do everyday, but a single line of sequins along the lash line as an accent for a party might be an option.

The key to the look here is:

  1. A base shade in a geometric shape. McGrath applied either a  rectangular block or a regular wing of shadow in a strong bright color (blue, green, orange, red or violet) across the lid, then
  2. she applied individual crystals in various patterns and shapes, deliberately NOT matching the shape of the shadow below.

What you’ll need:

  • A strong cream color base or pigment shadow; anything that will give you a very strong and opaque block of color
  • Crystals (you can look for expensive Swarovski crystals from brands like Make Up For Ever or just visit your local craft store; make sure to get a variety of sizes and colors)
  • Lash glue to adhere each gem
  • Tweezers to dip each gem in glue and apply it

My favorite looks?

The red eye with the geometric crystals, and the violet eye with the multi-colored, multi-sized gem wing over it!

Lingerie Colors: Barely-there shades
—-
This is so soft, but so defined, with beautiful false lashes and all the emphasis on the washes of faint pink and lilac color around the lids.
The smart trick here if you’re wearing barely-there shades is to
keep your skin very even and nude (if you have a lot of redness or uneven tones, a heavier coverage foundation and/or color corrective powder might be necessary),
keep your lips also very muted but not too pale (the effect is lost if you are wearing Snooki lips)
add a lot of black along the lashes to reinstate some definition and emphasize your eye shape
run a pale beige or white pencil along the waterline to reduce any redness that might once again clash with the soft tones on the lids

Color Obsession: Burnt-peach Lips and Cheeks

This looks equally gorgeous if you are blonde, brunette, or red-head although the effect will be very different on each.
It’s easier to locate a good burnt-peach blush than the perfect burnt-peach lipstick. If your features are very dark and you have medium toned skin, I suggest going for a slightly deeper and pinker lip (e.g. MAC Taupe or Mocha) so you don’t look too washed out. If you are porcelain, try something like MAC Kinda Sexy Matte Lipstick or NYX Ulysses round lipstick. If you have caramel or deeper skin, you can afford to add a bit more red in. Try NYX Femme.

Spring 2012 Trend Run-down #1: Red Lips!

Seen at Anna Sui, Dior, Jason Wu, John Paul Gaultier, Temperley London and YSL, lips were a true scarlet (neither blue nor orange) and the standout texture for a true-true red was matte, though there were some creamy finishes as well.

Red is not really hard to wear. In fact it can be incredibly flattering if you make sure to even out your skin, apply just a touch of light blush, and go easy on the rest of your makeup.

Good True reds: (light to medium skins)

Stronger Crimsons (For Tan to Deeper skins)
Glossier, Sheerer Red (Steal of the Moment)

Wear it with:
  • Matching Red nails (the closer the match you can find, the better!)
  • Warm, brown shadow

Oh, so beautiful! Now to master applying under-lashes….. (ugh.)
