Hot Pink Lips: NYX Sweet Pink Matte Lipstick

—-

I mentioned this lipstick quite a few times and thought it was about time to do more of a feature.

NYX Sweet Pink is a deep, matte magenta which is strong and bright, but one shade less neon than shades like Barry M Shocking Pink or MAC Candy Yum Yum. If you want to try a hot pink but are afraid of neon notes, then NYX Sweet Pink is a fabulous, more lady-like alternative.

The texture is creamier than most matte lipsticks are, and the coverage is opaque as you’d expect. There’s a bit of an artificial fruity scent there, but nothing too offensive.

NYX is available at beautyjoint.com, cherryculture.com and nyxcosmetics.com.

Sea Storm Eyes with Pink lips and cheeks

—-
This is a look featuring Sephora’s Colorful Palette #13 Jungle Chic.
I find the grey-green and khaki colors more reminiscent of a sea-storm than a jungle, but I’d say this is a nice palette to get, as the shades are quite lovely.
—-
Step 1: Seep the ochre-beige matte around the brown bones to clean up the area.

—-
Step 2: With the deepest gun-metal grey, add some contours around the outer V and gently into the socket line.

—-
Step 3: With the silvery medium-aqua shade, fill in the outer and inner corners of the lids. This will be the main color of the look. Sweep along the lower lash line as well.

—-
Step 4: Fill in the center of the lid with the lighter olive metallic. Then finish by applying a dark brown along the lash line and water line for definition.

—-
Step 5: Apply black liquid liner along the upper lash line, then false lashes or black mascara to finish. I want to keep the look soft, so I’m using wispy lashes rather than spike or dramatic ones.

—-
Finish with natural pink blush (Maybelline Pure Mineral N01 Original Rose) and barbie-pink matte lips (NYX Summer Breeze). You can use MAC Pink Nouveau if you want, as well.

Simple Doll Eye with Barbie Pink Lips (MAC Pink Nouveau)
—-
I’ve been on a bit of bright lipstick kick recently, even at work. And I know my colleagues’ eyes were popping when I wore Airborne Unicorn to work the other day, and then Pink Nouveau today.
So it was natural that I began to think of a fun “dolly” look that would be simple to do (no contouring or cut-crease) but still wearable and perfect with a bright lip.
The cornerstone of this look is the intense pink blush and strong, matte, cool-pink lipstick. The eyes are defined, but don’t take the spotlight.
—-
Step 1: I stuck tape to the outer corners of my eyes so I could get a really smooth and strong kitten eye liner. A dolly doe-eye should not be too cat-like, so don’t angle the tape too high. Your liner should come pretty much to the outer corners of your eyes before flicking upwards and out.

—-
Step 2: Use a black gel liner (liquids will be extremely hard to control unless you’re an expert, and pencil would be smudgy and imprecise) and a tiny paddle-shaped liner brush (not the super fine kind) to draw a strong but not overly-thick line along the lashes from inner corner to the edge of the tape. Then in reverse direction, draw black down from the outer corners in to meet the black line along your lashes.

—-
Step 3: To soften and warm up the lids, I applied a very sheer golden wash over the lids,  including the liner, which should still be dark but taken on a bit of sheen.
—-
Step 4: Apply a strip of spiky, separated lashes, taking care to position them further towards the outer corners than you normally would, to emphasize the doe eye. Then apply lots of black mascara to the bottom lashes.

—-
Step 5: Now that the eyes are done, apply a strong cool pink to the cheeks. I used MAC Coygirl but any intense matte pink with cooler undertones will do.

—-
As a final step, slick on a coat of MAC Pink Nouveau, the perfect semi-matte Barbie pink. (This shade is bright but works on almost all skin tones.)

Matte Fawn-colored Eyes with Matte Rose-Pink Lips

Matte seems to be the reining texture this season, and all varying shades of Pink the flavor of choice.
I really like this pairing of bleached brows, soft, neutral taupe lids with stronger, richer matte lips. The whole face stays clean-looking, without too much texture or colors to take attention away from the rich, precise mouth.

Fast and Furious: Matte Metallic Fuschia Lips

Step 1: Take any bright hot pink you own and apply it. I’ve spoken about Rimmel’s Color Show Off Lipsticks before, and while I wish they had nudes, browns, oranges and reds instead of just pink tones, this is one of the best and most affordable ranges of super concentrated bright lipsticks.
—-

Step 2: Very, very gently pat hot pink shimmer pigment (try MAC’s Fuschia pigment) over the entire surface of the lips. Then press your lips gently together. You should feel that your lips are perfectly dry, and the pigment is evenly distributed.
—-
Finished Look, below, with flash.

And that’s all there is. An intense cool-toned fuchsia that is transfer-proof and completely opaque.
I don’t suggest lip gloss over this as everything will start to slip and slide. A Matte finish will also make the look a little less over the top.
