Grey-Mauve Nails: Essie 721 Demure Vixen
—-
As we transit to Fall colors, I’ve been enjoying greyed-out pastels that are a little more grown-up looking, without being too dull and heavy.
This shade looks shimmery in flash due to the lavender highlights, but looks more like a smoky-mauve creme color in real life.

This is the PERFECT pastel mauve. Girly, but not too baby-ish. (Daylight below.)

One coat is pretty much opaque, and it dries relatively fast.
(Of course, it helps when you coat it with Seche Vite…)

Current: Matte Mauve Nails with Fimo Art (L.A. Girl Matte Lilac)

Been meaning to do matte nails for awhile now. Yeah, I know I’m just a little late on the scene, but I usually love my nails glossy, so I just never reached for my matte shades.

While cleaning out my cabinets, I re-discovered this bottle though. L.A. Girl’s Matte Lilac polish.

It’s a deeper mauve when viewed without flash, and reminds me of MAC’s Up The Amp lipstick in color and tone.

I still find it odd not to see a sheen, and not to be able to apply a top coat over this, but I really like the shade regardless.

Ah… this brings me back to my childhood days when I painted my nails with poster paint.

And then of course, I spent the night applying nail art (lollipop and cupcake Fimo art, above). I filled a little 5 gram jar with different designs, and I like applying designs only on 2 fingers, instead of all. It’s a little off-kilter and asymmetrical, which I absolutely love. You can do it just as easily with nail stickers if you’re worried about 3D bits falling off..

The problem with applying things on matte nails is that you can’t go over it with a layer of clear top coat for extra security, but for how cute this looks, I’ll let it go.

Current: Nail Polish (Sylvie #2)

Finally decided to do away with my periwinkle blue nails and pop on something more on the pink side.

I found this in a discount bin at my local drugstore for a couple of bucks and snapped up a few bottles in various shades of mauve, beige-peach, beige-pink, etc. This happens to be the beige-pink one. I have no idea where else this brand is available and the sticker behind is so faded I can’t make out a single word.

But I have not been able to find quite the same shade of nude-pink from other brands so far. They are always a little too grey or too rosy. (Maybe I need to stock up on a few more…)

Quality-wise, I can’t say much. These are really cheap, and the polish is already slightly tacky in the bottle even though it’s new. I don’t have very high hopes of it being chip-proof through the week, but for $1-2, what the heck!

P.S. The white sakura cherry blossom on my thumb is a nail sticker by a Japanese brand called Dear Laura. That’s about as crafty as I get with nail art, unfortunately.
