[CLOSED] Calling All Malibu Barbies! (300,000 Follower Makeup Giveaway Part 1 of 3)

I’m delighted to announce that the 2nd part of the 300,000 Follower giveaway includes not one, not two… but THREE themed sets of Lime Crime makeup products! Each themed set contains completely different products and will create different looks.

I’d also like to thank the amazing team (and shout out to Cassie) for the incredible generosity and actually letting me put together sets of items for the giveaway.

Without further ado, here’s the first themed set…

The Malibu Barbie kit!

So what if you don’t have platinum blonde locks, a wasp waste and a caramel-colored tan? You can still channel a little Barbie-style. The Malibu Barbie kit includes the following 3 items:

Reason Uniliner: I picked Reason because unlike most silver liners, it is actually made up of very fine little silver flecks so you have the option of both wearing it in a concentrated line or sheering it out like a sparkly cream/liquid shadow. (Tutorial here.) Perfect foil for bright pink lips when you want to go over the top!

Great Pink Planet (link to demo for lipstick and powder-pigment heart below): I’ve used and repurchased this baby-pink lipstick multiple times. It is like an ever-so-slightly warmer version of MAC’s Saint Germain (some people consider it an exact dupe, but while it looks very close once on the lips, Saint Germain is a touch more cool-toned). Goes on creamy and sets to more of a satin finish. Pale lipsticks can accentuate flakes and cracks though, so make sure your lips are well-conditioned.

Countessa Fluorescent (below): Highlighter pink. If you know what MAC’s Candy Yum Yum or Barry M Shocking Pink looks like, this is similarly bright but more of a straight neon pink instead of magenta. Absolutely, ridiculously fun, this is another of those traffic-stopping pinks that no self-respecting Barbie would be without! (Does leave a pink stain on the lips after wearing, due to the pigments used.)

Glossy Burgundy Lids with Neon Magenta Lips (NYX Matte Lipstick in Shocking Pink)

One more look I posted on Instagram (makeup_box) a couple of days ago. This is a very simple look to recreate. The only thing about it that is different from a regular look is just the gloss on the lids and a neon pink lip.

I used

  • a plum colored metallic pencil from Bourjois (Khol & Contour 07 Praline Inventif - any one you can find would do.)
  • a deep cool brown shadow (Coastal Scents Hot Pot in Southern Wood)
  • a soft medium-light taupe (Coastal Scents Hot Pot in Goldmine - MAC Patina would be a prettier alternative)
  • Any clear gloss and a bit of pale purple micro-glitter (optional)
  • soft pink blush (any of your choice; I used my Bourjois Little Round Pot shadow #15)
  • Bright magenta-pink lipstick that is deeper than a neon fuchsia (NYX Matte Lipstick in Shocking Pink)

Step 1: Begin by shading in your lids, then lining both the upper and lower lash line.  Then use your finger to gently blend out the edges so there are no hard lines, and then touch up the pencil once more along the lash lines. The color should be more intense there.

 —

Step 2: With the deep smoky brown, lightly run along the lid near the lash line and gently extend your brush past the outer corners into a slight wing. This sets the color around the lash line. If you want to, you can skip this step, but I like a bit more dimension and depth I get by layering the shadows.

Step 3: Apply a soft taupe brown to the upper portions of the lids, leaving just a small margin of skin above the lash line. If you want

Step 4: Go back over your upper lash line with the plum pencil.

IMPORTANT: Curl your lashes now because you’ll be applying clear gloss next. You can’t curl your lashes once you coat your lids as you’ll smear everything off.

 —

Step 5: With a flat brush, mix a little violet glitter (this is optional; it’s only visible when someone is quite close to you and looking directly at your eyes) into a dab of clear gloss, and then gently PAT that onto your lids. If you stroke your brush back and forth, you will end up smearing the shadow beneath.

Step 6: Finish by applying black mascara. IF you are using false lashes instead, then you will need to apply them BEFORE you apply the gloss. Otherwise, the latex will have problem sticking to your skin if there is any gloss there.

Simple, Colorful Reverse-Liner with Bright Lips

—-

Anonymous:

I’m the kind of girl who wears tons of eye make up EVERY day, but I really want to start wearing the kinds of bright pink lip sticks you’ve been posting. What kind of toned down eye make can I wear with that, without over doing that?

—-

This look is so simple it’s not even a tutorial. If you are used to playing up your eyes a lot, but want to try amplifying your lips instead, the good news is that you don’t necessarily need to go with a nondescript, neutral eye.

I do often just pair bright lips with soft bronze-brown on the lids, but if you want a bit of fun, try applying a stroke of strong, colorful liner on the lower lash line. For this look, I’m demonstrating with 2 of the strongest colored products I have; Milani Liquif’ Eye Pencil 04 Aqua, and Lime Crime’s Countessa Fluorescent.

The only important thing to note is that if you are going light on the lids, make sure you add definition to your lash line. As I wanted the “un-lined” look, I applied liquid liner to the tightline, instead of above the lashes. (If you don’t have a steady hand, use a long-wearing black pencil like Milani Liquif’Eye instead of liquid liner. I love this because unless your eyes are super-watery or super-oily, it will set in 10-15 seconds and not budge for a long time.)

Then finish with mascara, apply your choice of heart-stoppingly strong lipstick, and lightly dust on the sheerest touch of a blush that matches it in shade (e.g. NYX Pinky or elf Passion). Since the lips and the eyes are so strong, I really recommend doing your blush last for this type of look, or the amount you apply before your lipstick goes on might be a bit too much later.

Extra Tip: You can skip the colorful liner for day and then use it to transform your look for a night out!

Holiday Lip: Velvet Neon-Pink Lips (Magenta Madness Pigment)

Who says bright shades are for summer?
I’m a huge fan of electric lip colors for their ability to act like a megawatt lamp on most faces, and hot pink is the new (edgier, happier) red for me.
However most of the formulas I’ve tried leave you with a horrid, deep red stain that makes wearing a paler, sheerer lip almost impossible after that. Now if that bothers you to no end, you might want to stop reaching for the lipsticks and start reaching for the matte pigments.
—-
Step 1: Apply a soft cool pink lip pencil to your entire lip. If you find it hard to get even or opaque coverage, apply a matte lipstick and blot. (I’m using NYX Dolly Pink pencil.)

—-
Step 2: Do what they do on the catwalks and use a fluffy brush to dab a neon, matte-fuchsia pigment (try MAC’s Pro Magenta Madness) over the entire lip, coating the base color evenly. If you want a super bright look, it’s important that your base is not too glossy or creamy, as anything with too much lubrication in it is going to grab the pigment and darken it to a deep rosy magenta.

Note: It’s more likely than not that you will make a mess at this point so do prepare for it.
—-
Step 3: I suggest cleaning up around the edges with a Q-tip dipped in makeup remover as the dust would have made your lip line quite “fuzzy”, or else using a slightly deeper lip liner than I did, and don’t go right to the edges when you’re applying the powder. This way the edges would still be very defined.

You want to stand out. No shrinking violets here!
You want to stand out on camera. This not only photographs insanely well, but I believe it is also black-light responsive, as most neon pigments are. If you want craaaaazy lips at a club, this is for you.
You won’t like this if:
you have flaky, or chapped lips
you don’t like the feel of a very matte finish
you have a cut or sore on your lip
you are afraid of bright pink

Other Ideas:
(You can also use softer pressed shadows like Urban Decay, as these have less fillers and will tend not to become “muddy” when applied over a dryer base product, but just be careful if you need to re-dip your brush. If you have lip product on it, it can ruin your lipstick. Hence, pigments are usually the best for this purpose.)
Matte Red pigment on Red pencil for a real red velvet look
Metallic Purple on Black liner (not for the faint of heart)
Metallic brown pigment on taupe liner
Bright matte orange on nude/natural liner
Any other variation you find fun!
