Do you have any tips for facial hair. and long sideburns. I have a tad bit of alot along my upper lip, but you can only see it up close. And I’m not going to shave it, it will just grow back longer. and if I wax if, That will be the lightest part on my face, even if make-up will cover it up. It will still come back. Will I just have to keep waxing it?
There are 4 ways to get rid of facial hair;
- Shaving - Not recommended. It doesn’t actually grow back thicker, but the blunt tips of each hair shaved strand WILL be more visible than when a new strand grows out. Plus, you don’t really want your boyfriend to feel any stubble when you smooch.
- Waxing/Tweezing - Effective, relatively cheap, lasts quite awhile. I use this method. It really lasts for at least a couple of weeks in most cases but you’re right. You will need to re-wax every once in awhile. Your skin will not actually be whiter unless you had so much hair that your skin was not tanning properly in those areas. Waxing it regularly will end this problem. (Not good if you have very sensitive skin though.)
- Bleaching - You can buy facial hair bleaching creams in drugstores, but I don’t like the thought of using bleach around the lip area because my lips are so sensitive. You WILL need to touch up and re-bleach quite often as the roots will grow back dark and can end up looking like stubble if you’re not careful.
- Electrolysis: The most expensive, but only permanent way to get rid of hair at the moment. You’ll need to go to an aesthetician for this as it involves zapping the roots of your hairs and “killing” them so they never grow again.

What kind of make-up styles could i try for down turned eyes, currently i am using a top lash line with a wing at the end it seems to be working but i want to experiment.

Actually you don’t need to move away from what works unless you are comfortable experimenting with a totally different look. But if you want to get adventurous, try:

Your skin is amazingly clear, what products do you use?
Actually I just recovered from a bad breakout a week ago (PMS sigh), so I don’t have perfect skin all the time! The rest of the time I do use some products to help keep things as clear as possible. The list is here!

hello :) do you have any relatively inexpensive, good foundations to recommend? I’ve got skin that’s a lot yellower than yours, plus awful acne which got worse recently - which means a lot of redness on my cheeks. Help! ):

i have a question about red cheeks. i have an olive skin tone and i never get sunburned except when it gets really hot, my cheeks get extremely red, i was wondering what i could do to cover it up without using a heavy concealer.
- everydayminerals.com has powder foundations that come in very specific golden or olive undertones for those who have extremely yellow-toned skin. The coverage is actually very good, and the products are also very affordable, and fantastic for troubled skin because it contains no active chemicals, and service is great! You can also get a green corrector to apply on red areas UNDER powder foundation, and it will neutralize the redness.

I really like to wear red lipstick but my boyfriend likes to kiss me all the time and then I have to re-apply it. Are there any cheap drug store lipsticks that are smudge proof that you like?
That’s tricky! I think you’d need to use a lip stain rather than a lipstick in order for it to be totally smudge-proof. Try Revlon or Maybelline’s lip stains in a cherry-red shade! It’s not going to look as strong as regular lipstick but it’s better to having him wear it along with you!

Hi! Can you do a makeup tutorial for girls wearing a red dress to prom? Or, well, I have no idea what to do for makeup or how to apply makeup for prom/pictures especially w/ the idea of wearing a red dress. Thanks in advance!
You have 2 options depending on the style of your dress and whether you prefer to play up your eyes or your lips:

- Go with a red lip that matches your dress. (Try NYX, Maybelline or Revlon as they have many good reds.) This looks very striking with a red dress, but you’d really need to go out there and find something that matches! You can keep the rest of your face very clean, with just a little mascara and black liner, and a bit of pink/peach blush.
- Go for a dark, smoky eye using black or dark brown shadows and keep your lips very nude (Revlon Soft Nude or NYX Circe are affordable nudes to get). This gives you a more “mod”, sultry look.

Would you recommend a good brow powder? And how to apply it properly? Im a beginner :| Thank you very much in advance! :)
I actually use a matte taupe brown shadow like MAC Concrete as a brow powder but you can use any brand. The trick is to go for something slightly lighter and more grey than your hair.
Follow this step-by-step and avoid Step 5 UNLESS you really want to thicken up your brows.

Hi. i am a teenage girl with moderate acne. i have a couple breakouts but i get them frequently and it always leaves dark spots. My spots do fade but some dont go away completely. your skin looks flawless and i was wondering if there is any hope for me to have clear skin again. i have just started getting acne recently but i am so insecure about it. my skin is pretty oily as well. could you please tell me if you ever struggled with acne and how bad. i would like some hope that this will pass
I understand totally. My acne will leave marks, and so will insect bites, and pretty much anything that causes inflammation in my skin, and sometimes it gets SO frustrating trying to have one thing heal and another spot pop up.
I actually went to a dermatologist for medication twice, and he told me there are 2 periods in a woman’s life when she would be prone to breakouts. Once during puberty and once when she is near 30. Your hormones change, which cause your sebaceous glands to get reactive and over-produce oil.
GOSSMAKEUPARTIST has a video on how he cured his serious acne but it’s quite a harsh way to do it. I don’t suggest this for everyone, but it works for some.
I know how depressing it can be to deal with it constantly, so if it’s really affecting you emotionally and you want to avoid Wayne Goss’s very harsh method, I highly recommend making an appointment at the dermatologist for a consultation to see if he/she recommends oral antibiotics, topical treatments, or stronger temporary medication like Isotretinoin (this worked for me). A lot of times, this actually saves you more money and stress over the long term, instead of buying product after product to try and fix your skin.

I really need your help! Im a young african american woman and I am having a hard time finding makeup that could compliment my skin. I want to start wearing concealer, bronzer, and eyeshadow. I wear NC50 for MAC.

For makeup to get a natural eye and lip for brown skins, I actually think you can afford to go for shimmers (no obvious glittery bits!) instead of matte browns and neutrals. This will stand out and look much more beautiful on deeper skin tones.
For a simple eye and lip look, this tutorial would very likely be gorgeous on a darker skin tones. Go for warmer, stronger browns, bronzes and coppers like Maybelline Eye Studio in Copper Chic, rather than typical grey-toned taupes which can look quite dull against deeper skins.
For the lips, sheer frosty pink, bronze, beige, coral lipsticks tend to bring out the contours beautifully (unless your lips are tinier, like mine, in which case it doesn’t really work…), and pop visually as a layer of sheen over very pigmented lips. NYX has a lot of beautiful frosty shades for very affordable prices so you can get a whole bunch to experiment!
For the cheeks, trust me - it’s much prettier to get a nice strong fuchsia or coral-red blush (e.g. NYX Pinky / Cinnamon blushes) to give you a soft pop of color on the cheeks rather than to search high and low for the perfect shade of bronzer.

hi hi! I saw some acne stuff floating around- my question is: I was gifted a Velocity Cleanser and moisturizer sample set whilst being dragged to a Mary-Kay party. Before I buy the other sizes, is it a good product for combo skin/prone-to-breakouts skin? (it seem gentle so far, 3 days) In fact, is Mary-Kay stuff good at all? :O my friends have been hypnotized! P.S. I love your awesome blog and pinterest~
I can’t really speak from personal experience as I haven’t tried Velocity, but so far, all the reviews I’ve read on it seem to indicate it’s pretty good for problem skin! As with all products, there will be a few people who react badly to it, but I would say if you haven’t had any bad reactions to it after 3 days of use, just continue and let us know if it’s worth buying!

Any tips on getting mascara off without taking your eyelashes out?
I have just ONE tip. Get an oil-based makeup remover that emulsifies with water (like the Shu Uemura ones). All you need to do is gently massage to break down everything, including waterproof mascara. Then rinse with water. Period.
No rubbing with cotton pads and tissue, no tugging at lashes to remove tube mascara….
Affordable cleansing oils don’t seem to easy to obtain outside of Asia though. :/ Check out your local Korean beauty shop to see if they might carry any makeup remover oils there!

How do I make my revolon colorburst in Fushia look like yours? Yours looks incredibly bright and hot pink, but I bought it for that reason and it looks very dark, too dark for my face :(.
You are probably a good deal paler than I am! Also note that I’m taking the pictures with a white lamp in front of me, so the color will look like it does in the bright daylight more than it does in yellow or in-door lighting. If you want to brighten it up a bit, apply the thinnest possible layer of concealer over your lips (or a lip primer that is flesh colored) and let it set for a bit before you apply the lipstick.

How do you make lipstick or lipgloss last long? I have to apply mine every hour, maybe an hour and a half if I’m lucky. This is without eating, drinking, and barely talking. I wear lip liner with it, mattee the edges like you’ve said in a preverious post, and “kiss” off the moisture onto a tissue. I don’t get it! :(
Is this happening EQUALLY for both lipsticks and lip glosses? And does your lip liner also wear away?
It’s hard to tell what might be happening, but my guess is that you probably have a tendency to unintentionally fiddle with your lips a lot more than you notice; this means pursing , pressing your lips together, licking them, rolling them against each other, chewing them, or even touching them with your fingers without noticing.
In general, I don’t like lip glosses for daily wear because they don’t stay shiny for more than about 2 hours tops, before the emollients sort of sink into your lips or wear off, but it usually does not disappear or fade quickly for at least about 2 hours either.
Try this experiment if you haven’t; coat your ENTIRE lips with liner and then apply your regular lipstick with a lip brush, and then blot and reapply. If in an hours’ time, your lip liner is also gone, then you are probably fiddling with your lips unknowingly!
