[Requested] Easy-to-Wear “Pink Glam” Day Look for Summer

There were a few requests for easy-to-do day looks that are quick to apply, fun for Summer, visible, but not over-the-top.

This is a look that pairs a bright pink shimmer (one of those fuchsias on the 88 Shimmer palette that we never use) with simple neutrals (beige shimmer and black) for a flattering look that works on any skin tone and all eye shapes.

This is a look that works especially well if you’d like to elongate or widen small or rounded eyes.

Holographia: Dramatic Metal Ombre Lids with Yellow-Red-Pink Transfer Foil! (Click images above to see in larger size)

Transfer foils were created for arts and crafts. Then some genius decided to use it on nails. Not long after, some people thought it might be a good idea to attempt it on the lips.

(That didn’t go too well, because while it looked cool when it was done perfectly - a la Katy Perry - very few people ever managed to do it perfectly. Tons of women ended up with disappointing patchy, cracked-looking lips.)

Since I’ve got tons of foil (I buy mine from dollarnailart.com), I naturally wondered about using it for other things. It is BRILLIANT as a dramatic transfer tattoo, But what about the eyes?

Blue Wing: One more way to wear strong colored eyeshadow without going over the top!

This look is very simple once you look at the below image. The eye is divided into 4 quadrants. In each quadrant is 1 shade. The 2 at the inner halves are taupes, and the 2 at the outer halves are blues. The 2 nearer the lashes are dark, and the 2 above are lighter.

The Copper Cat - Graphic Winged Eye

This is an updated recreation of a winged graphic eye, below, that I did awhile back, except this time, I used a copper metallic shadow instead of purple. You can always switch the lid color according to your preference.

This latest version is a little more precise and not quite as dramatic, so it’s up to you which version you prefer to try.

This eye shape can be done for:

  • Mono-lids, hooded lids, regular lids
  • Any eye color; though copper looks especially good with blue eyes, or if you are a woman of color.

Basic Green/Black Winged Eyes

There’s nothing quite as dramatic as a solid winged eye, and the good news is that it isn’t actually extremely hard to do as long as you get the basics right.

This look is good for:

  • All eye shapes and any skin/hair/eye color.

I used L’oreal Infallible Shadows in Eternal Black and Permanent Kaki. (I believe this is named differently in the States. You can use any deep khaki green you have.)

You will also need black liner, and mascara.

Grey with a Lavender Twist: Duochrome Sparkle Eyeshadow Tutorial
—
Because Maybelline’s Color Tattoo shadows were SUCH a great product to use as glitter base, I couldn’t resist doing a second version in a slightly winged out kitten-eye shape. This time, I used a grey base (Audacious Asphalt) and a crystalline white glitter with a violet sheen on top.
The image above was taken in daylight, as I had a lot of trouble capturing the true color of the glitter (Virgo by Lime Crime) in flash photographs. It kept showing up white in the camera, although it’s a violet in real life. (Scroll to bottom of post for another image showing the duochrome effect).
You will need:
Black pencil
Grey cream shadow or base
Pale white glitter with lavender sparkle (you can actually use any pale glitter; it doesn’t need to be a white with violet duochrome, but if you can get hold of some, it adds a twist to the look)

—

Step 1: First, I did a simple black liner swatch along the upper lid. Do it in a rough triangle so it’s thick at the outer corners.
—

Step 2: Here’s the fun step. You apply the grey shadow using a synthetic concealer brush, and you want to line it up exactly above the black liner you did earlier (overlapping a tiny bit is fine) and then drag it out past the outer corners of the eye.
This actually scrapes the black and pulls it out into a nice sharp wing.
The grey should go up to the hollow of the socket line, so continue to apply if that stroke with the brush did not cover everything.
—

Step 3: The simple part is the glitter. Just quickly use the same brush to press a thin layer of pale white/violet glitter over the grey cream shadow.
—
Step 4: Finish with black mascara. Because the glitter doesn’t really go down to the base of the lash line, you can easily wear half-strip lashes with this look for some extra drama.
It’s quite a neutral look but there’s just that bit of extra sparkle in a different color when your eyes catch the light.

To show you how the duochrome looks, I have an image taken in shaded interior lighting (daylight) as well. Grey, but not grey!
